50-year Reunion Up-date
November 24, 2004 Dear Classmates, Everyone seems to agree that we had a great 50-year Reunion! Fifty classmates were in attendance with their spouses and friends. The party began with several classmates meeting for a get-together at Gene Brown’s house on Friday afternoon, then on to the Elks Lodge for check in, registration, and excellent refreshments that were provided by the planning committee. At the registration table, classmates were provided with name tags with their high school senior pictures on them. It was easy to see that we have hardly changed at all in the last 50 years, as you will be able to see from the pictures on the web site. (Ha, ha, ha!) At the Elks, memories were shared and friendships renewed. Later in the evening, some classmates went to their hotels; others went to Stacies Restaurant/Lounge in Leesburg for food and drink. On Saturday afternoon, many classmates gathered again at Ron and Shirley Warner’s house on Little Barbee Lake. There we had a great time visiting, looking at old pictures, memorabilia, and year books. One classmate even arrived in an immaculate, 50s model, vintage automobile! Lolly, the artist of the class, brought her beautiful paintings to display. Our next event was cocktails back at the Elks in late afternoon, followed by lining up for our 50-year class reunion picture. We really are a handsome, distinguished looking group, as you can also determine by the picture on the web site. At the Elks, we enjoyed a very good buffet dinner followed by Karaoke and dancing to the music of the Elderly brothers. We were entertained by lots of jokes by Larry Kinsey, laughter, and absolutely terrible singing by some of our more melodious classmates. During the singing, it was difficult to tell whether the Elderly brothers played the wrong music for the lyrics or whether the singers sang the wrong lyrics for the music, but some how they just didn’t seem to fit together!! On Sunday morning, we gathered one last time for a brunch at Neva’s Restaurant in North Webster. It actually took a long time to say goodbyes to all our old friends in preparation for the short and, in several cases, long journeys home. After all, we had classmates in attendance from states as far away as Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Mississippi, Michigan, Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, California, Montana, and Arizona. Everyone had such a good time that we are already looking forward to our next reunion in 5 years or maybe sooner. Members of the reunion committee were Nancy (Mitterling) Stover, Ian Ross, Leo and Phyllis Borders, Larry Kinsey, Ron Warner, Bob Huffer, Sue (Shaffer) Gunter, and Lorna (Fletcher) Flory, We all owe a very special thanks to Nancy (Mitterling) Stover and her daughter Sue for all their work, motivation, and organizational ability. Also we send a special greeting to some Florida classmates who were unable to be with us due to the hurricanes. We sincerely hope that they have recovered from any damage to their homes. Good bye until we meet again and with warm regards, Ron and Shirley Warner |
